Joanna Stone Herman

Joanna Stone Herman is a partner at Oaklins DeSilva+Phillips in New York, co-leading the TMT and legaltech teams. With over 20 years of experience in the media and technology industries, she has participated in numerous transactions on both the sell-side and buy-side. Recent notable transactions include representing Sling in its sale to Toast, Hay House’s sale to Penguin Random House, and Workman Publishing’s sale to Hachette. She also supported the acquisition of Netmaster Holdings Limited (CaseLines) by Thomson Reuters.

Previously, Joanna held executive roles at Reed Elsevier, where she served as SVP of global strategy for LexisNexis, and Thomson Reuters, where she was EVP of business development for Thomson Financial Corporate Group. She also worked at Dow Jones, Time Warner, and Accenture’s media & entertainment practice. Joanna co-founded Librify, the exclusive e-book provider for Target, which was later sold to Scribd. In addition to her business ventures, she has advised and invested in tech startups such as City Maps, Thuzio, Axial Markets, and Matterhorn.

Joanna is actively involved in several organizations and serves on the boards of the Harvard Business School New York Club and the MIT Club of New York. She also contributes to ProPublica’s business advisory council and has held leadership positions at The Dalton School and Memorial Sloan Kettering’s Kids Cancer Walk. Recognized for her achievements, she was named “Top U.S.A. Women Dealmaker” by the Global M&A Network in 2022 and received honorable mention as one of Mergers & Acquisitions’ “Most Influential Women in Mid-Market M&A” in 2023. Joanna holds both a BS and MS from MIT and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
